According to journalist Silvan Schweizer (Tages Anzeiger), Diaz decided to accept the Flames' invitation to their training camp which will start on September 11. The native of Baar had three different options, the others being Detroit (confirmed) and either Dallas or Toronto (rumored).

With Calgary, the 28-year-old hopes to take another shot at the NHL-level after having a difficult season behind him, suiting up for Montréal, Vancouver, and the New York Rangers. Diaz, however, won't be the only one on a try-out with the Flames. They also invited defender Sheldon Brookbank, 33, who recently played for the Chicago Blackhawks.
