HC Lugano has announced that their 21-year-old Swedish defender Calle Andersson will leave the shores of Lake Lugano and play overseas within the organization of the New York Rangers as of next season.

Andersson, who had signed an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers at the end of May last year, made use of a clause in his contract that allowed him to find a different agreement with the prestigeous franchise of the Big Apple (new two-way deal) in order to start his North-American adventure already at an earlier point in time.

"His agreement with us remains valid," Lugano's team manager Roland Habisreutinger points out in an interview with Ticinonews. "He still has a year of contract left with us, meaning that when and if Calle should return to Europe, he will wear again the jersey of Lugano."

The native of Limhamn (SWE) and son of the Bianconeri's assistant coach Peter Andersson appeared in a total of 48 games for EV Zug and HC Lugano last season, in which he was able to put up six goals and 17 assists for 23 points. (rlu)
