Thürkauf is the second Swiss player selected in this year's draft. He left Switzerland and his youth team EV Zug last summer to pursue his hockey career with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. In January, EV Zug's team manager Reto Kläy told the Neue Luzerner Zeitung that Thürkauf would likely stay in North America.
For the Kelowna Rockets, the 18-year-old forward played 79 games last season, scoring 20 goals and 33 assists. (bsc)
