Klaus Zaugg (Watson) reports that the Calgary Flames have taken interest in SC Bern's forward Gaëtan Haas. Thus, Haas could leave the current Swiss champion after only one year and fly to North America as of next summer.

As Haas' agent Jaro Tuma confirmed, the Flames have actively observed his client for a long period of time. He is expecting an offer by the end of the current season. However, the 25-year-old will only take the chance to play overseas if he's offered a one-way contract.

Haas performance at the upcoming Olympic Games and the next World Championship might give a good indication if his physical game is good enough for the NHL. "To be ready for this next step, he needs to be able to play 80 percent of the league games on the level of the last World Championship in Paris," Tuma states. His ongoing contract with SC Bern, which includes an NHL-out clause, is valid until the end of the 2019-20 season.
