As Sportsnet reports, the Montreal Canadiens are actively trying to trade their veteran Mark Streit, whom they signed to a one-year $700,000 contract in July this year (excluding bonuses).

The 39-year-old defenseman has only appeared in two of the Montreal Canadiens' four games since the start of the 2017-18 season thus far, averaging a 14:33 time on ice per game and without scoring any points.

After launching his NHL career in Montreal in 2005, Streit's second stint with the Canadiens could thus wind up shorter than anticipated. Last term, he appeared in a total of 68 games for the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, recording six goals and 16 assists.
