NLA - Placed on unconditional waivers Tuesday night and not being claimed by another NHL team, the 26-year-old American forward has decided to return to Switzerland, where he has re-signed a contract with the Kloten Flyers.

Mueller tried his luck with the St. Louis Blues this summer. But the adventure suffered a first setback on Tuesday, when he was placed on unconditional waivers. No other NHL team has claimed him and he thus would have had to start the season with St. Louis' AHL-affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

As journalist Andy Strickland (CBS Sports) reported yesterday, however, Mueller is "obviously not committed to playing in the AHL." Sportsnet analyst Elliotte Friedman even said that Mueller wants to terminate his contract and might prefer a European offer.

According to hockey insider Darren Dreger (TSN) tonight, Peter Mueller has finally decided to return to Europe, where he has re-signed a contract with the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland's highest League.

Mueller moved from the Florida Panthers to the Kloten Flyers last September, signing a one-year contract. With Kloten, the National League A's best goal scorer of the 2013-14 season had recorded a total of 26 goals and 23 assists in 59 games.

UPDATE The Kloten Flyers have officially confirmed the re-signing of Peter Mueller. The American forward will stay with the Flyers until the end of the season and is expected to scratch the ice on October 17 against Genève-Servette HC. - 10 October 2014, 9:11 AM
