SCB had been searching for an injury replacement for Marc Reichert (shoulder) and Chuck Kobasew (concussion), who are both out indefinitely. Looks like they found one in the 27-year-old winger, who was drafted by the New York Islanders in the second round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in 130 NHL games, scoring 13 goals and eleven assists for the Islanders and the Edmonton Oilers.

However, the Finn has not played consistently in the NHL since he was drafted. In the 2012-13 season, he suited up for SHL-team HV71 and he also played for the Islanders' AHL-affiliate the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (44 goals, 72 assists in 178 games). This season, he scored two goals and two assists in 20 games for the Edmonton Oilers.

UPDATE As team manager Sven Leuenberger tells the Berner Zeitung, they are indeed interested in Joensuu. However, he is not able to confirm the deal just yet, as the player has not yet signed his contract. - 12 December 2014, 07:30 PM
