The 26-year-old defenseman appeared in 100 NHL games for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2009 to 2014. However, the Flyers, who own his rights, will definitely not be the team he will play for, if he is able to return to North America: "Philadelphia told me that they do not have space for me this year [2015-16], but that they could agree to trade away my rights if we find something. [...]."

However, even if it does not work out for him, he has other options. Though he has closed the door on the KHL and the SHL, he is confident to find a good fit for him for the upcoming season: "I might be seeking to go to Switzerland. My agent said during the season that there was interest, and I believe that I'm sitting in a good seat in Europe. So I'm not worried."

Erik Gustafsson scored 25 points (six goals, 19 assists) in 68 games for KHL team Avangard Omsk this season. However, for the most part of his professional career he played in the AHL for the Adirondack Phantoms, putting up 13 goals and 82 assists in 144 games. (mso)
