mt_ignoreAccording to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, San Jose Sharks forward Nick Spaling is close to signing a contract with Genève-Servette HC. Apparently, there are just some formalities left in the deal.

The 27-year-old forward, who was part of the Sharks' run to the Stanley Cup Final, has appeared in 494 NHL games (55 goals, 81 assists) for the Nashville Predators, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose.

Spaling was drafted by the Predators in 2007 and is currently an unrestricted free agent. If he will join the Grenats, he would thus complete Genève-Servette HC's import quartet, which, apart from him, would consist out of Jim Slater, Mike Santorelli and Johan Fransson.

While the deal has not yet been confirmed by Genève-Servette HC, the Tribune de Genève reported on Tuesday night that Spaling has committed to a one-year contract with the option of adding another season. (mso)
