Colorado Avalanche
Reto Berra got 43:13 worth of playing time last Tuesday when he came in in relief of Calvin Pickard after the Kings took a 3-1 lead on only 8 shots. He made 20 saves on 22 shots and finished the game with a .909 save percentage. After a good run of games, the Avalanche have closed in on a playoff spot. They trail the Winnipeg Jets on the second wild card spot by five points. With 13 games remaining, the Avs have collected 75 points.
Minnesota Wild
Nino Niederreiter is currently on a hot streak! He opened his week with an assist in a 2-3 loss to Colorado. He had a plus-2 rating and four shots on goal in 14:06. The Wild bounced back with a 6-2 win against New Jersey two days later with El Niño contributing an assist and three shots on goal. Niederreiter was a plus-1 in 18:44. The Wild lost the last game of their three-game homestand 1-2. It was Niederreiter’s only pointless game this week as he had two penalty minutes and three shots on goal in the contest in 16:34. They visited St. Louis to close out the week on Saturday and picked up a 3-1 win. The Swiss forward scored his 22nd of the season and was a plus-1 with two shots on goal in 15:27 time on ice. Minnesota has 83 points in 69 games and holds the first wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Nashville Predators
Roman Josi’s Predators came into the week in the midst of their worst and first slump of the season. A 2-1 overtime victory over Arizona ended that slump on Monday. Josi was a plus-1 and had six shots on goal in 28:03. The Predators were unable to go on a winning run with a 0-2 loss three days after in San Jose. Josi had five shots on goal and played a whopping 27:53. Nashville bounced back with a 2-1 comeback victory following two third-period goals with Josi assisting on Stalberg’s game-winner. He was a plus-1 with one shot on goal in 26:08. Nashville still leads the Central Division with 93 points in 70 games and is tied for the Conference lead with Anaheim.
Pacific Division
Calgary Flames
Jonas Hiller made two appearances this week, the first one in relief of Karri Ramo in a 4-5 shootout loss to Ottawa on Sunday. Hiller came in after 22:17, stopping all of the 19 shots on his goal for a 1.000 save percentage. He got a full 60 minutes worth of playing time in Toronto on Friday, where he got his 21st win of the season with 25 saves on 28 shots in a 6-3 game. Raphael Diaz meanwhile was a minus-1 in the game in Ottawa with one shot on goal in 18:42. He played 13:12 and had one shot on goal in a 6-3 win over Anaheim three days later, before seeing 17:02 of ice time in a 6-3 win in Toronto (minus-1). The Flames lost their last game of the week on Saturday in Colorado. Diaz was a plus-1 with four shots on goal in 13:54 in a 2-3 loss. Calgary sits third in the Pacific Division with 81 points in 69 games.
San Jose Sharks
Sharks coach McLellan played Mirco Müller in three games this week. Müller saw 17:19 of ice time in a 2-1 shootout win and was a plus-1, before only playing 13:07 in a 2-0 over Nashville three days later. A collapse in the third period against the Blackhawks cost them the game on Saturday. Müller played 16:58 in a 2-6 loss and was a minus-1 with two penalty minutes. The Sharks are on the outside looking in, four points behind Winnipeg on the last wild card spot.
Vancouver Canucks
Luca Sbisa was the only Swiss Canuck in action against Anaheim on Monday. The defenseman saw 21:14 of ice time and was a plus-1 with one shot on goal in a 2-1 win over his former club. When the LA Kings came into town on Thursday, Ronalds Kenins returned to the lineup, but remained pointless in 14:57 of playing time. On the backend, Sbisa was a minus-1 with two penalty minutes in 18:40 in a 0-4 loss. For their last game of the week, the Swiss trio was finally reunited as all three players found themselves on the lineup. Yannick Weber had a fabulous comeback and was a plus-3 with two penalty minutes and three shots on goal in 19:07, while Kenins had a helper, a plus-1 rating and one shot on goal in 10:33 and Sbisa picked up a plus-1 rating, a minor penalty and two shots on goal in 18:27. The Canucks are second in the Pacific (82 points in 68 games), eleven points behind leader Anaheim, one point ahead of Calgary.
Metropolitan Division
Philadelphia Flyers
Mark Streit had an awful minus-4 rating on Sunday in a 2-5 loss to New Jersey in 18:05. He followed that game up with a minus-1 rating and one shot on goal in a 1-2 loss to Dallas in 21:51 worth of ice time. The Flyers dropped another game in St. Louis Thursday night, where they lost 0-1 in a shootout with Streit picking up one minor penalty in 24:25. Philadelphia’s first good game of the week was also their last one – Streit picked up a power-play assist in a 7-2 rout of the Detroit Red Wings. He was a plus-1 in 21:51. While Philadelphia hasn’t officially given up on their play-off hopes, the Flyers are ten points behind Washington and Boston with only twelve games remaining. They will most probably miss the play-offs.
AHL – Quick Look:
Sven Andrighetto (Hamilton Bulldogs – MTL) had three assists in three games in the past seven days. He was a combined minus-2 on the week, had five shots on goal and picked up two minor penalties. Kevin Fiala (Milwaukee Admirals – NSH) scored one goal in four games this week, along with a minus-2 rating and eleven shots on net. He also doubled his penalty minutes total with three two-minute minors to give him six on the season. Tanner Richard (Syracuse Crunch – TBL) had two goals and two assists in three games, along with five shots on goal, a plus-4 rating and five penalty minutes. Teammate Joel Vermin (Syracuse Crunch) picked up two assists in four games. He was a minus-1 on the week, had two shots on goal and sat in the sin bin for two minutes. Sven Bärtschi (Utica Comets – VAN) kept up the scoring pace in his second week with his new team. He had a goal and an assist in three games, along with an even rating, eight shots on goal and four penalty minutes.
