Since the start of the season, EHC Basel has been playing without several injured players. Currently in the infirmary are long-term injured Jamie Schaub, Anthony Rouiller, and Patrick Zubler, as well as Laurin Liniger, Alain Bircher, Matthias Rossi, and Fabio Haller, who all have recently suffered injuries. Most of them will not return until after Christmas or even the end of January.
“I don't want to use this as an excuse for why things aren't going well at the moment. But in my 26 years in the business, I've never seen so many injuries,” explains Kevin Schläpfer to the "Basler Zeitung". Particularly worrisome is the injury afflicting Anthony Rouiller: “He may even be facing the end of his career," continues the team manager.
Not only did EHC Basel lose several players due to injury during the season, but they also had to deal with the departure of their assistant coach, Heinz Ehlers, to Bern. Now, Ehlers' successor Robin Farkas will also be leaving Basel due to health reasons, and the search for a new assistant is underway.
