In its inaugural year, the IIHF Male Player of the Year award has been dominated by Connor Bedard. The Canadian 17-year-old, the projected number-one choice at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, received almost one-third of the votes from the media and the IIHF Family from around the world.

For his part, Andres Ambühl received the third-most votes distancing Moritz Seider and the fourth place by almost five percent. This season, Ambühl extended his records for most IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships (18) and most games played (131) while scoring a couple of game-winning goals at the World Championship. He also became the top Swiss scorer at the Worlds.
