The 40-year-old forward has agreed to terms with the Mestis team and will join them in the first week of September.
"Helsingin Sanomat" reported last week that Valtteri Filppula would return to the team for which he played junior hockey for the upcoming season.
It has been clear since March that Filppula would not return to Genève-Servette HC. The forward had been playing in Switzerland for the past three seasons. Last season, he recorded eleven goals and 22 assists in 51 regular-season games.
