The 31-year-old forward has agreed to play for the Shanghai Dragons. He will thus play in the KHL next season.

Petan was originally signed to a two-year contract by HC Ambrì-Piotta last summer. However, the contract was dissolved in late October of 2025 after Nicolas Petan requested to opt out of his deal.
Since then, the Canadian forward has been without a team. He will now get a new start in the KHL. He is familiar with the league, as he used to play for AK Bars Kazan in the 2024-25 season.
