On the tenth year anniversary of Patrick Fischer's appointment as head coach of the Swiss national team, the SIHF announces that the 50-year-old will leave his job at the end of this season, in which he will get to lead Switzerland at the Olympic Games and at the home World Championship. As rumored, Fischer will be succeeded by Jan Cadieux.
Cadieux has been working for the SIHF since being relieved from his duties as head coach of Genève-Servette HC during the 2024-25 season, first as an assistant coach to Patrick Fischer and then also head coach of the U20 squad. Cadieux has signed a contract valid until the summer of 2028.
“After ten intense and formative years, the decision has been made to hand over the national team to someone else,” says Patrick Fischer. "It has been an incredibly rewarding time, and I am proud of what we have achieved together." For his part, Lars Weibel, Director of Sport at the SIHF, highlights the growth under Fischer: "Thanks to him, the Swiss national team has continuously developed over a decade and celebrated numerous successes."
On the future head coach, Weibel states: "In Jan Cadieux, we have found the ideal successor: someone who will consistently continue both the Swissness and the positive development of our national team, while also providing new impetus. Thanks to his passionate work with our junior national teams and as assistant coach of the senior national team, he has an excellent understanding of our values and our Swiss prospects, the senior national team players, and our NHL players".
Finally, Cadieux declares to feel honored by the role: “First of all, I would like to thank those responsible for the trust they have placed in me. It is a great honor and fills me with pride to take over as head coach of the Swiss senior national team and accompany them in their development process. We want to combine performance, passion, and team spirit at the highest level and achieve our sporting goals together.”
