The Swiss controlled the game in the first period but created few chances. This is also why the period ended without a single goal on either side.

In the 26th minute, Denis Malgin opened the scoring for the Swiss. Within 3:33 minutes, the Swiss then added goal number two (Sven Andrighetto) and three (Christoph Bertschy) to their tally, making it 3-0. It got even worse for Germany, as the Swiss recorded two more goals before the end of the second period (Nico Hischier and Roman Josi).

The Swiss also remained in control of the game in the third period. They even scored a sixth goal thanks to Andrighetto. Frederik Tiffels denied Leonardo Genoni his shutout, as he opened the scoring for Germany in the 56th minute.
