The first period was definitely in the hands of the Czechs who did not allow the Swiss to establish themselves in their defensive zone.
The second period saw the Swiss gain some momentum in the game. They created more chances in the offensive zone and overcame two power plays by Czechia. The Swiss also got the opportunity to play on the power play, but they were not able to beat the Czech's goaltender, Lukáš Dostál. Still, in the second period, too, the more high-end chances belonged to the Czechs.
Both teams were trying their best to prevent the other team from getting chances in the third period, but the Czechs were able to convert on one of their chances in the 50th minute of play: David Pastrňák scored the first goal of the game. After that, the Swiss tried their best to tie the game again and created some good chances. However, they could not get past Dostál. 19 seconds before the end, David Kämpf put the puck in the empty net and thus ended the Swiss' dreams of a comeback.
The Swiss thus end the tournament in second place, winning their fourth silver medal in Switzerland's history, the third in the new millennium. Kevin Fiala was announced as MVP of the tournament and Roman Josi as the best defenseman.
The Swiss will travel back to Switzerland tomorrow and will arrive at the SWISS Arena in Kloten at around 14:00 CET to celebrate their achievements at this year's World Championship.
