National Team

In a statement released by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, the current head coach of the men's national team apologized for his actions prior to the Beijing Olympics.

"In the run-up to the World Championship on home ice, I would like to address a personal matter. Prior to the Winter Olympics in Beijing, I entered China using an invalid COVID-19 vaccination certificate. Neither the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, Swiss Olympic, nor those close to me were aware of this," Patrick Fischer said.

He was convicted for this in 2023. As he explains, he did not want to get vaccinated for personal reasons but still wanted to support his team at the Olympics: "I recognize that I made a serious mistake in this matter. I stand by my actions and take full responsibility. I have faced the resulting consequences and paid the fine."

According to SIHF's president Urs Kessler, Patrick Fischer will not have to deal with further consequences, as he has recognized his mistakes and has paid his dues.
