After one season in the capital city, the 28-year-old defenseman returns to the Seeland. He has signed a five-year contract with the National League team.

EHC Biel decided on the long-term contract to ensure continuity and planning certainty. Furthermore, Alexander Iakovenko will qualify for Swiss citizenship in about two years. If he were to be naturalized, he would no longer count towards the import player contingent.
Iakovenko was under contract with EHC Biel for four seasons before joining SC Bern last season. In 30 games for the Bears, he recorded three goals and nine assists.
