In October, the SIHF announced that they had hired Antti Törmänen to mentor coaches on the U17 to U20 levels. This engagement will end once the 2024-25 season is over. As HC Lugano revealed today, they are also going to be able to count on the services of the 54-year-old, as he is joining them as Senior Advisor to the coaching staff.
"Once again, I have been surprised at how quickly the world of ice hockey spins", Törmänen is cited in the SIHF's press release. "I am extremely grateful for the perspective that the SIHF has given me. The mentoring sessions have given me an enormous boost and I would like to thank them once again for the additional flexibility I need for my commitment in Lugano."
"I am excited to join Lugano as Senior Advisor and grateful for this incredible opportunity to share my hockey knowledge with the coaches, players, and the entire organization", the Finn is quoted by his new employer. "I am truly inspired by the role of Senior Advisor as a third career in hockey, after being a player and a coach."
The planned expansion of the SIHF's mentoring program will be suspended for the time being.
