An adventure overseas and a stint with Genève-Servette HC was enough time away from home. As the ZSC Lions announced earlier today, Tim Berni will return to them coming summer. He has signed a six-year deal.
"Tim is a stroke of luck for the rejuvenation of our defense", team manager Sven Leuenberger states. "In Geneva, he has matured into a national team player with World Championship experience. He can play power play and box play and is very versatile. At the end of his six-year contract, Tim will still be at the peak of his hockey career at 31. It is great that he is returning as a homegrown ZSC-player."
Starting out his path with EHC Dübendorf, Berni eventually joined the proper youth department of the Lions, and made his debut in men's hockey during the 2017-18 season. The following summer, he was selected 159th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL Entry Draft, and headed overseas in 2021. Two years later, he returned to Switzerland and became part of the Grenats.
Overall, Berni has made 291 games in the National League so far.
