Whereas the 27-year-old defenseman has signed a two-year deal, the veteran defender will hang up his skates at the end of this season.

HC Fribourg-Gottéron

Arrived in 2020 from Lugano, Benoît Jecker decided to extend his stay with HC Fribourg-Gottéron until at least 2024. Jecker appreciates the opportunities received in Fribourg and believes that the Dragons are very ambitious. So far, his eight points in 32 regular-season games makes for his best points-per-game statistics in his career.

While fans of HC Fribourg-Gottéron will get the chance to see Jecker in action also in the future, they will have to bid Philippe Furrer farewell in a few months. As the 36-year-old explains on HCFG's website, "during my illness phase that I just went through, I concluded that it was time to stop playing professional ice hockey at the end of the current season".

Despite having recovered and still being in good shape, having a lot of fun, responsibilities and playing time, Furrer does not want to ignore the signs of the times: "in the last few days and weeks, my body has been telling me that I have to say goodbye to elite sport...".

Barring any injuries, Furrer will thus finish his career with more than 800 championship games and 200 points, at least three Swiss championships (all with SC Bern) and a silver medal at the IIHF World Championships in 2013.
