The 36-year-old former defender thus makes a smooth transition from the ice to the back office.

Claudio Cadonau retires and takes on a new challenge

SCL Tigers

Cadonau played his last professional game in the series against Lausanne HC this March. He has played over 450 Swiss League and 500 National League games and will now use his experiences as player for the next step in his career.

"He has convinced us in all areas. Claudio brings great experience as a team leader and fits perfectly into our organization with his calm, modest but determined manner," Markus Bütler, CEO of the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, said. "His work ethic and willingness to always learn made him stand out as a player. He is authentic, approachable and down-to-earth - values that match those of the Lakers."

Claudio Cadonau succeeds Janick Steinmann who signed with HC Lugano and will serve as team manager of the Bianconeri.
