Still under contract for the coming season, the Latvian netminder is now staying until at least 2027.

The SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers have secured their goaltender duo for the 2026-27 season already. After Melvin Nyffeler recently signing an extension (until 2028), Ivars Punnenovs has now followed suit and is also staying on board, in his case "just" until 2027. His original contract was still valid until next year and included an option for an additional one.

"This gives us the certainty that we will have a strong duo in net for the next few years", team manager Claudio Cadonau states. "Ivars has been one of the most consistent goalies in the highest league for over 10 years. With his calm manner, he is an important element in our team structure."

This past season, Punneovs made 23 appearances, posting a .906 save percentage and allowing an average of 2.66 goals against.

"This means we can start the new season unburdened", the 31-year-old mentions. "I have known this club since my youth and have always enjoyed playing here. I will continue to do everything I can every day to ensure that I can deliver my best performance for the Lakers."
