The 45-year-old Swede is under contract with the Malmö Redhawks but EHC Biel is reportedly discussing with them for a solution.

swisshockeynews.ch

As Expressen reports, the new head coach of EHC Biel, Martin Filander, would like to work with Mathias Tjärnqvist, with whom he already collaborated from 2017 to 2019 in Malmö and again from 2020 to 2022 with IK Oskarshamn.

Tjärnqvist has a contract in place with Malmö until the end of the upcoming season, but apparently, the club would not stand in the way and they are negotiating with EHC Biel how to resolve the situation.

As a player, Tjärnqvist spent most of his career in Sweden but also spent four years in North America splitting time between the NHL and the AHL. In 2017 he retired from professional hockey and started working in the organization of the Malmö Redhawks, where he returned in 2022 after one year with Rögle and two with IK Oskarshamn.
