Aleksi Heponiemi arrives in Biel from the organization of the Florida Panthers. In the past two seasons, he mainly suited up for their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. Over the course of his carreer, he has appeared in 25 NHL games so far (two goals, four assists).
"Aleksi Heponiemi is a wonderful, elegant playmaker with a highly developed hockey sense and good vision of the game," EHC Biel's scout Thomas Roost says. "At least theoretically he fits very well in our league."
With the signing of the young Finn, EHC Biel has eight import players on their roster, including goaltender Harri Säteri. Defender Viktor Lööv, however, is still recovering from a cervical spine injury. It is not clear when he will be able to return to game action.
