"The Board of Directors is determined to do everything in its power to protect the players. We know that there is no such thing as "zero risk", but there are ways of minimizing these risks," Philippe Baechler, president of the board, states. "After the powerful images of Hartikainen's accident, we decided to speed up this procedure because we came within centimetres of a tragedy. It's our duty to set an example."
The players will have to start wearing the neck guard from today onwards. It is mandatory for all professional players who are employed by Genève-Servette HC.
