In Ambrì, Lars Weibel will succeed interim team manager Alessandro Benin, who stepped in for Paolo Duca following his departure in October. Weibel’s role will extend beyond the men’s first team, as he will oversee the entire organization with an integrated approach, encompassing the men’s and women’s first teams, youth talent development, scouting, performance, and technical expertise.
CEO Andreas Fischer welcomes Lars Weibel to the Biancoblù family: "His experience, his credibility in the world of hockey, and his ability to work with a broad vision are perfectly aligned with the path we have chosen: to build strong foundations, methodically and consistently, to face the future with ambition and solidity.”
Weibel will therefore leave the Federation after seven years, a period during which he “had a lasting impact on the sporting structures of Swiss ice hockey,” according to SIHF CEO Martin Baumann. For his part, Weibel explained his decision as an opportunity to explore new challenges: “After this phase, the time is right for me to take on a new challenge. The project in Ambrì-Piotta is very exciting, and I look forward to building something new there.”
The SIHF, which, in the words of its president, Urs Kessler, would have liked to keep Lars Weibel with them longer, will now have to find a replacement. According to journalist Klaus Zaugg ("Watson"), Paolo Duca himself could be a strong candidate.
