For the first time in their history, HC Fribourg-Gottéron has won the National League championship. The number 2 seed defeated once again on the road the leaders of the regular season, HC Davos. The championship-clinching goal was scored by Lucas Wallmark in the sixth minute of overtime during a power-play situation.

The game started well for HC Fribourg-Gottéron, which was up 2-0 (Henrik Borgström and Jamiro Reber) before conceding their first goal of the night in the 17th minute (Klas Dahlbeck). After a scoreless second period, HC Davos tied the game with Filip Zadina in the 49th minute. With the game going to overtime, it was Wallmark's goal that sealed the deal.

The Dragons thus win their first championship. The occasion was made all the more special by the fact that their 40-year-old captain and legend, Julien Sprunger, was playing his final game after a career spent entirely with Fribourg.
