Leaving the Dragons is the only certainty for the defenseman. There are options, one of which might even be a return to his previous employer, EV Zug.

As already reported multiple times over the last weeks, HC Fribourg-Gottéron will not renew Raphael Diaz' contract. "It is legitimate for the organization to want to make the team younger", the 38-year-old defenseman is cited by "Blick". He does, however, intend to extend his career. "I feel healthy, I am having a lot of fun and my heart is fully in it."

Where that may be is still up for grabs. "There are two or three things we are looking at", Diaz notes. As for why a decision has not been made yet, he brings up the coaching change in Fribourg and the Spengler Cup. "Things will become more concrete after the turn of the year."

In an article in the "Aargauer Zeitung", Klaus Zaugg speculates where Diaz might end up. There have been talks with SC Bern, but, according to his sources, the veteran is unlikely to end up there. SC Rapperswil-Jona is also at the same level of likeliness. Diaz' former and longtime club, EV Zug, might be in the mix for possible destinations, too.
