The legal case between Genève-Servette HC and its former coach and team manager will soon have a new chapter. In the fall, the two sides will meet again in court to settle a multimillion-franc lawsuit.
As known, Chris McSorley is asking for about 7.7 million francs, an amount that corresponds to what he would have earned until 2028, the year in which his contract with Geneva would have expired. The Canadian claims that the club unfairly terminated said contract in 2020. The club, on the other hand, disputes the length of the contract and demands in return 2.8 million francs to McSorley for hidden dividends or excessive salaries.
In addition to the disputed length of the contract, another issue has been brought up. McSorley claims that the club has intentionally pressured him and pushed him to the edge in order to be able to dismiss the contract with just cause. Among other things, reportedly, McSorley was sent letters questioning his work and probity, his office was moved and his hours were counted, and he was prohibited to travel with the team when he was team manager.
On the club's part, they believe that there are several valid reasons for the dismissal. These range from a failure to comply with the contractual obligations to a refusal to get involved in certain tasks (the new ice rink dossier or accepting a position as advisor), to possible competitive activities.
