SC Bern has found the replacement for Jussi Tapola among the staff of their Swiss League partner team, EHC Basel. Effective immediately and with a contract until the end of the season, Heinz Ehlers will be leading the Bears as head coach. Interim head coach Patrick Schöb will move back to assistant, alongside new assistant Pavel Rosa, while interim assistant Tuomas Tuokkola will return to the U21.
Ehlers has a storied history in Swiss hockey. Bern is already the 59-year-old's eighth team in the country. After winning the Swiss League title last spring with EHC Visp, the Dane first wanted to move back to his home country, but then received an opportunity with Basel.
Rosa was most recently employed by HC Fribourg-Gottéron, where he spent the last nine years, the majority as assistant of the main squad.
As for the now open spot in Basel, head coach Eric Himmelfarb will be supported by goalie coach Juris Klodāns ad interim until a new assistant is found.
