Petri Matikainen has a long working experience as a coach. He started in 2003 in Finland, then worked three years in the KHL, followed by three seasons in the Liiga with the Pelicans. After that, Matikainen joined EC KAC in 2018 and had been working for them ever since. Back in April Matikainen and the Austrian club had decided to part ways.
As a coach, Matikainen won two ICEHL championships, the award for the best coach and a silver medal in the Liiga twice, and a gold medal at the World Championship as an assistant coach to Finland's national team.
