“I really like Sandro, not only his playing style, but also his personality and his qualities as a team player,” explains Roger Rönnberg. “I would love for him to stay with HC Fribourg-Gottéron. I hope he feels the same way.” Sandro Schmid, 25, is on an expiring contract, and as a player of the national team, it is expected that he will be courted by several other clubs.
Asked about Dominik Egli, whose contract with Frölunda HC is going to end at the end of the season, Rönnberg has not much to say: “I can talk to Dominik as a former coach and friend, everything else has to do with respect for my old club and his agent.” Whether following his former coach to Fribourg is an option for the Swiss defender remains to be seen.
Last season, Schmid set a personal best with 13 goals and also recorded eleven assists in 45 regular-season games. In nine playoff games, the forward added nine points to his tally.
