As SC Bern's team manager Andrew Ebbett tells Klaus Zaugg ("Watson"), they are currently in the process of extending Daniel Manzato's contract for another season. The veteran goaltender has been with the Bears for the past two seasons and mainly serves as a backup for Philip Wüthrich.
Ebbett also denies that the Bears are trying to sign an import goaltender for the upcoming season: "If at all, that might be the case as a safeguard for the closing stages of the season, but certainly not for the next season."
Their other young goaltender, Andri Henauer, is currently gaining experience with EHC Basel. Ebbett plans to loan him to the Swiss League team again for the 2023-24 season. Regarding next season, Ebbett is also looking for an import forward and an import defenseman. Marc Michaelis of the SCL Tigers is, however, no longer an option for them. He is of interest to EV Zug, though.
As for the current season, it remains to be seen whether Marco Lehmann can hit the ice again this season. He is still dealing with a virus infection. Eric Gélinas, on the other hand, should return sometime during the qualification - at least that is what Ebbett hopes.
