The former team manager of the Bears tells Angelo Rocchinotti ("Blick") that it is a shame he cannot show what he learned the past year.

Alex Chatelain
SC Bern

As reported yesterday, Florence Schelling will replace Alex Chatelain as SC Bern's team manager. Chatelain will, however, not leave the club: he will be in charge of the analytics division. The 42-year-old accepted to remain because "SCB has been my club since I was a little boy. For me, the appeal isn't the role of team manager or particular tasks."

About this past season, Chatelain admits that he learned more by missing the playoffs than he did during the championship seasons. Chatelain does not shy away from the mistakes he made, citing, for instance, a lack of leadership and control over certain situations. And contrarily to what Bern's CEO Marc Lüthi thought, the native of Chur did not feel burned out in his role and was eager to prove he learned from his mistakes.

Despite ending up replacing him, Lüthi is nonetheless happy to keep Chatelain on board, as he told Blick: "The hockey scene is a family. We didn't want to lose him. He has a lot of strengths,". Lüthi also reveals that the hiring freeze will be kept, even for the head coach, until the worst of this current pandemic is over.
