Finishing this past season below expectations, SC Bern is shaking up their roster a bit. "We clearly fell short of our goals last season and are aware that changes are needed. We have now made the first changes—more will follow", sport director Martin Plüss states.
In net, Andri Henauer will not be extended, but Sandro Zurkirchen has received a new contract until 2027, forming - for now - a duo in the Bears' net with Christof von Burg. Talks about a possible third goalie are ongoing.
On defense, Aleksandr Iakovenko is not getting a new deal, and the trio of Ramon Untersander, Joël Vermin, and Hardy Häman Aktell is not part of the club's plan anymore. A solution for them is being worked on. Samuel Kreis is sticking around for another year. Latvian youngster Rolands Naglis has gotten his first professional deal with Bern, valid until 2028. An addition comes in the form of Ian Mitchell, a 27-year-old Canadian with a past in the NHL (110 games) and the AHL (233 appearances), who last suited up for the Syracuse Crunch.
As for forwards, besides the known departures of Victor Ejdsell and Mike Sgarbossa, Noah Fuss will also not be around anymore next season. Gregory Weber is once again being loaned out, this time to EHC Arosa. A one-year extension goes to Emil Bemström, and the option in Marc Marchon's contract has been activated, making him a member until 2028. Daniels Serkins, also a youngster from Latvia playing in the Bears' youth department, is getting his first pro deal, too.
Off the ice, Heinz Ehler's successor will be announced by the end of May at the latest. Assistant coach Pavel Rosa is sticking around for two extra years. Tim Bertsche, coming over from EHC Kloten, is replacing Simo Vehviläinen as goalie and video coach.
