The Lakers it is - Lugano's Mike Sgarbossa off to a new shore

Mike Sgarbossa is joining the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers for the coming season. His contract with HC Lugano was terminated by mutual agreement (it would have lasted until next spring). Signed by the Bianconeri last May, the Canadian was loaned to SC Bern in January and spent the rest of the winter there.

"Mike will improve our center axis", team manager Claudio Cadonau states. "He brings a wealth of experience to the team, has great game sense, and can help us both as a playmaker and a goal-scorer. He has also shown this season that he has successfully adapted to the larger European rinks."

During his first National League season, Sgarbossa suited up 40 times, recording 13 goals and 19 assists. Before coming to Switzerland, the forward spent most of his career in the AHL (641 games, 486 points), with occasional stints in the NHL (93 appearances, 25 points).
