Despite their interest in keeping Malte Strömwall around after the expiration of his current contract - valid until this spring - the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers have to bid farewell to the Swedish forward, who decided to accept the offer of the ZSC Lions. The 31-year-old forward will thus leave the Lakers after two seasons.
The team manager of the Lions, Sven Leuenberger, especially praises Strömwall's offensive qualities: “Malte is a scorer who can make the difference. He has an excellent shot and, as a right-handed shooter, he provides versatility. He is also a hard worker.”
This season so far, the Swede has scored 14 goals and collected eleven assists, while last season he averaged exactly one point per game in 48 appearances.
Additionally, the ZSC Lions also announced the extension of three 20-year-olds: defender Timo Bünzli, who is already part of the ZSC's roster, and forwards Kimo Gruber and Endo Meier, who are formally with the GCK Lions but already dressed up a few times for the ZSC Lions. All three homegrown products of the organization have signed one-year deals.
This season, Bünzli collected one assist in seven outings with the GCK, Meier recorded 23 points in 31 games for the team of the Swiss League, while Gruber mostly suited up for the ZSC Lions, putting up five points in 20 games.
