Born in California when his father Philippe was playing for the Los Angeles Kings, Matthew Boucher went through the Canadian junior system before landing in the ECHL, the third-tier of American hockey. Last season, Boucher decided to move to Europe and signed with HC 05 Banská Bystrica.
Loïc Burkhalter, HC La Chaux-de-Fonds' team manager, believes that Boucher can bring a lot to the club: "Matthew is a player we've been following for a long time. He can play on the wing as well as in the middle, and he's a fast, aggressive forward who's always looking to score. Wherever he has played, he has established himself as a leader."
This season, Boucher scored 31 goals and picked up 33 assists in 56 games in Slovakia, leading his team in both categories.
