Swiss League

Once the current season is over, the 36-year-old will put an end to his professional hockey career.

After almost 20 years in Switzerland's top two leagues, Patrick Parati has decided to hang up his skates. He will have made close to 900 games - the exact number depends on HC Thurgau's playoff run.

"Ice hockey has brought me countless wonderful moments and I am grateful that I was able to call this sport my profession for 20 years", Parati states. "In recent months, the decision has been maturing that I will end my active career at the end of the current season."

Starting out with the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers, the defenseman made his way via HC Ajoie, HC Martigny, HC La Chaux-de-Fonds, EHC Olten to Thurgau, where he has been since 2015. After being an assistant captain in his first year with them, he took over the role of captain in 2016.

"I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and I am ready for new challenges in my life. Thank you to all the people who have accompanied me.", Parati mentions. "However, it is still too early to reminisce and I am convinced that more unforgettable moments will be added this spring."
