Yves Brantschen will not play professional hockey anymore. He did have talks with HC Sierre regarding a new contract, but given that he did not receive a lot of ice time last season and that the talks were "going into the wrong direction" he decided to bet on his career in financial administration instead.
"It was a decision against an uncertain sporting future and for my environment here with a secure job," Yves Brantschen tells the "Walliser Bote". Whether he will suit up for a team at the amateur level is not yet clear. Some teams have already asked but the defender has yet to make a decision: "I just want to be on the ice for fun."
Yves Brantschen is a product of EHC Visp's organization but also spent part of his formative years as a hockey player in EV Zug's organization.
He made his professional debut with the EVZ Academy in the 2016-17 season. In 2018, he returned to Visp. After two seasons with them, he became part of HC Sierre's organization and has suited up for them ever since. Last season, he recorded two goals and one assist in 45 regular-season games.
