The Swiss League continues to face financial and structural challenges, with several clubs having left the competition in recent years. According to a proposal currently being discussed, the league could come under the umbrella of the National League, creating a joint structure for Switzerland’s two professional divisions while leaving amateur hockey under the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation. The idea would also involve renaming the competition National League II.
Under the proposed model, the two leagues would be managed more closely together, with the aim of improving cooperation and increasing the Swiss League’s visibility. Additionally, in the event of a merger with the Swiss League, the National League would, in return, abandon its plan for its own U23 youth league.
