The Canton of Fribourg to support the 2026 Worlds financially

As explained by the "Freiburger Nachrichten", the financial contribution is made up of two parts: on the one hand, financial aid of a maximum of around CHF 2 million and, on the other, around CHF 1.7 million for contributions such as police and civil defense deployments.

The 2026 IIHF World Championship will take place in Switzerland in Zurich and in Fribourg. The majority of the Grand Council of the Canton of Fribourg believes in the importance of the event: "It is a showcase project, a shop window, and a unique opportunity for our canton," states Hubert Dafflon, spokesperson of the preliminary committee.
