Just about a year ago, Sven Bärtschi announced his retirement from professional hockey due to health reasons. Instead of on the ice, the former forward is now moving to coaching, starting off as an assistant with the Portland Winterhawks.
Bärtschi already was a member of the WHL team from 2010 to 2012. After his first season with them, he was selected 13th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
“Sven has played the game at the highest level, knows our culture, and is eager to work with our group”, Portland's head coach Kyle Gustafson comments on his new staff member.
