Although his Swiss team, EHC Kloten, is counting on him for next season, the defenseman might already head overseas.

Kloten's youngster David Reinbacher was selected fifth overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. In the time leading up to the draft, it was often noted that the Austrian would like to stay in Switzerland for the coming season and that Kloten is planning with him.

However, the defenseman's near-term future is still up in the air. As Reinbacher is cited by Sky Sport Austria, he has great motivation to show that his selection was the right choice. "I want to play in the NHL as soon as possible. But I don't know the exact plan. I will do what the club says is their plan." He does want to finish his education at the United School of Sports in Zurich, but he states that there are online classes.

The Athletic notes that there are some concerns among the Canadiens about bringing Reinbacher over right away. Some fans' reactions to the pick have not been very positive and exposing him to that might do more harm than good.
