Today, the Canadiens de Montréal announced the signing of Connor Hughes to a one-year, two-way deal. He is thus leaving Lausanne HC after only one season, despite having a contract until 2025. It is highly likely that the netminder will start his time overseas with the Laval Rockets in the AHL.

"The LHC gave me my chance and I am very proud to have been part of the club's historic season", Hughes is cited on his former club's website. "To have such an opportunity in the NHL in an organization as important as the Canadiens de Montréal is quite simply a dream for me."

After spending his junior time in Canada, Hughes joined HC Ambrì-Piotta in 2017, but only played for the HCB Ticino Rockets. Via SC Langenthal and HC Fribourg-Gottéron, he eventually landed in Lausanne last summer. In this past regular season, the 27-year-old posted a save percentage of .940 and averaged 1.73 goals against over 19 games, followed by a .933 and 1.91 goals against on average in 18 playoff games.

In his stead, Lausanne has signed Antoine Keller and Thibault Fatton until 2026. 19-year-old Keller was with the LHJMQ's Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst last season, but is familiar with Switzerland - he spent his previous junior time in Genève-Servette HC's organization. 22-year-old Fatton joins from HC Lugano. He will start the season with HC Sierre in the Swiss League.
