Olympic Games

With a 1-5 defeat against Finland, the Olympic Games are over for Patrick Fischer's team. Andres Ambühl scored the only Swiss goal.

Switzerland started the game well, played at eye-level with Finland. But the goals in the first period were only scored by one side: Miro Aaltonen scored the go-ahead-goal for Finland in the 9th minute of play, Mikko Lehtonen scored the 2-0 only two minutes later. A shot, which was deflected by Swiss defender Santeri Alatalo.

In the second period, a bad pass by Lukas Frick provided the Finns with a two against one opportunity and the 3-0, scored by Marko Anttila in the 24th minute. Head coach Patrick Fischer thus pulled Reto Berra and sent Leonardo Genoni onto the ice.

Shortly before the end of the second period, Andres Ambühl scored on the power play (assisted by Enzo Corvi), cut the deficit to two and revived the dream of the semifinals. But to no avail.

With another power play and Fischer replacing Genoni with a sixth player with a bit more than five minutes to go, Switzerland went all in. But Iiro Pakarinen scored into the empty net and only 79 seconds later Teemu Hartikainen added another empty netter for the final score of 5-1.
