Women's Worlds

As of the 2025-26 season, the Women's World Championship will revert to "snake seeding" in the two groups of the 10-team tournament.

swisshockeynews.ch

Since 2012, the Women's Worlds have been played in weighted groups, meaning the five top teams were in Group A and the rest were in Group B. The IIHF has now decided to revert to the old format, meaning groups will be balanced.

The format will be similar to the World Juniors or the Women's U18 World Championship. The teams that finish last in each group will face each other in a relegation game to determine "who will return the following season."
