The 21-year-old forward's new deal contains an NHL out-clause valid as of the 2018-19 season. Rathgeb had been pursued by several clubs and had received multiple offers, but has now decided to remain with the Dragons until 2019.

Rathgeb is a product of SC Langenthal's organisation, but then joined Langnau in 2011 for two seasons. After a two-year stint in the OHL, he returned to Switzerland and signed a two-year contract with his current club, HC Fribourg-Gottéron. In 79 games for them, he has scored 16 goals and 29 assists.
